Big City University is an afterschool program provided for K-5th grade for Bradley County School students, which takes place at the North Cleveland Baptist Church, Monday-Thursday from 2:30 – 6:00 p.m. Students are transported by Bradley County School buses to the program and parents are required to provide transportation home. Big City University (BCU) is a choice program, which strives to provide a safe, educationally enriching, fun, and rewarding experience for students during the hours when there may be no adult supervision in the home. Children will have the opportunity to engage in activities that will benefit them emotionally, physically, and educationally. The program is conducted by staff trained to meet the needs of children and provide positive adult role models.
Each student spends 45 minutes each day in our tutoring rooms with a tutor to help him/her to complete their homework. We do our very best to give students adequate time to complete his/her assignments. After homework time, each student rotates through our classrooms where academic enrichment is provided in a Creative, Hands On, and Interactive Learning Environment. We provide art, computer lab (we are web based with Bradley County Schools), science, physical education, reading & mentoring.
We encourage good attendance in our program, funding each year is based on student attendance. Also, a student will not begin BCU until his/her parent attends the Mandatory Parent Meeting we will host. (We will contact each parent with this information). Each parent is also required to complete (4) activities a year with our program (this is a state requirement), in order to keep your child in the program. We offer a variety of activities for students & parents each month. There is no cost for this program.
